Modern Architecture at Expo ‘92, Sevilla Spain. This is an interesting one. A bit of brutalism mixed in with postmodernism language, and is not easy to capture photographically. This was built as the Italian Pavilion, (“Palazzo Italia”) designed by architects Gae Aulenti (She was a towering figure in Italian Postmodernism) and Pierluigi Spadolini. It was intentionally designed to evoke the imagery of a traditional, fortified Italian historical city. Note the Geometric “Pediment”: The central triangular glass structure at the top reads as a highly stylized, high-tech reinterpretation of a classical temple pediment. It is currently being used has corporate offices and was designed to be re-purposed as such after the Expo. #Sevilla #Expo92 #PostmodernArchitecture #ArchitectureLovers #brutalism #brutalistarchitecture #architects #gaeaulenti
