Post #6, in my Post-Modern Architecture at Expo ’92 series in Sevilla. This beauty was originally constructed as the Puerto Rico Pavilion and designed by Puerto Rican architect Segundo Cardona. The design represents the past, present and future of Puerto Rico. The triangular building (on the left) with thick, natural stone walls and deep window punctures evokes the historic Spanish colonial military fortifications found in Old San Juan. The central structure features an open-air pergola framework clad in white Carrara marble, linking the individual buildings and symbolizes the present: Puerto Rico breaking out of its isolation to connect, converse, and exchange ideas with the rest of the world. And the future is portrayed in the curved, metallic volume on the right is a cylinder wrapped in copper sheets and translucent glass symbolizing Puerto Rico’s growth into technology and industrialized development. The kind of stuff that would make any 80’s architecture professor proud! #Sevilla #Expo92 #ArchitecturePhotography #PostmodernArchitecture #ArchitectureLovers # SegundoCardona
