COMPLETED CONSTRUCTION 2020
This lakefront home, is located in Southwest Michigan (Climate Zone 5) and consists of 2,400 SF interior conditioned space, plus 575 SF garages for 2,975 SF of total area. The lot is an old lot platted in the 1950’s and is long and narrow, being a bit pie shaped with its wide end being on the water. The home was constrained by the side yard setbacks. The design focuses on the 210 degrees of panoramic views of the water. The Program includes
- Great Room with Kitchen/Dining/living spaces combined
- 2 master suites each with full bath and walk-in closet
- 1 guest bedroom with full bath
- 1 guest 1/2 bath
- reading nook
- Mud room
- Laundry Room
- 2 car garage- 1 existing to remain and 1 new
Design Features include
- Great room, both master suites and exterior decks take advantage of the water views.
- Split one car garages (see plan below) are necessary because there was an existing 1 car garage that was non-conforming with current zoning (it is too close to the street).
- Passive shading, especially to protect the home from heat gain of the summer afternoon sun, while allowing the penetration of the winter sun for passive solar heat gain.
- One of the master suites is located on the ground floor, creating a first floor compliant with Universal design principles, allow for the home to be fully functioning and accessible for a resident living on the 1st floor or for an age in place scenario.
- Solar ready building orientation has 50% of the roof area facing south to accommodate feature solar panel installations.
