Demolition and Salvage

GREEN DEMOLITION

On the property there was a pre-existing structure, a cottage that was built in the 1950’s. Even though it was old, we were able to identify components that could be reused in one way or another.

To start, we were able to keep the existing garage and use it in the new design. It is now attached to the new home, and received a new roof, siding, and new windows to match the new home. We were actually able to salvage and reuse much of the existing structure. Not only is it better for the environment, but it saved some money in the process! The exterior aluminum siding was also salvaged by some neighbors to be re-used on a small cabin in the woods. The plumbing fixtures, appliances, and heating/cooling systems were donated to Habitat for Humanity, which came to the site and took everything they wanted before the heavy demo began.

Lastly, the original cottage interior walls were all finished in knotty cedar wood planks. Much of this real wood was removed from the walls and salvaged, and was re-used in the new home. Check out some of the images above to see where they came from, then click on the INTERIORS page to see how they were used.
